If you are wondering what Wealthy Affiliate is all about, I hope this post will give you a clear indication. Many people ask if Wealthy Affiliate is a scam, or if it’s a legit way of starting your own online business and earning money. I will give you some insight regarding this, and then you can judge for yourself if Wealthy Affiliate is a scam or what.
What is Wealthy Affiliate?
Wealthy Affiliate (WA) is a program that promises high-quality training, a large community and an easy to use platform. With these tools you’re able to build an online business, and generate income through affiliate marketing. By building your online business you will have the freedom to work on your own schedule, spend more time with loved ones, and generate additional income.
So how does Wealthy Affiliate monetize? To join the WA network, and receive full membership benefits, you are required to have a premium membership. This gives you full access to a multitude of resources on the platform and in the training. You do have an option to start a free account, and keep it at that for as long as you wish, but you will have limited access to the resources.
Once you have become a premium member you will have an option to upgrade again to a yearly premium membership. This does work out a bit cheaper than the month-to-month premium membership. What I like is that they do offer a free account if you would like to just try out the platform with no obligation to upgrade, and no expiry of free membership. You can create your free account here, just click on the image below.
Wealthy Affiliate aims to provide relevant training of high quality, but simple enough to allow you to understand highly technical terms and systems. They also offer live training, as well as their training for beginners.
Easy to use platform
WA boasts a platform that will easily allow you to create a website from scratch in 30 seconds, as well as tools needed to optimize your site for search engines, like Google and Bing.
Wealthy Affiliate does pride itself on having a large community of helpful people, who are also at different stages of their business. These people may be starting out or may have been working online for years. This does allow for a diversity of views and expertise.
As someone who has worked in the realm of digital marketing, I already had some knowledge of SEO and SEM, but my knowledge of affiliate marketing and social media was limited when I started. I also came in with a healthy dose of skepticism on their claims.
When I began following their training program, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of training and the depth of knowledge held by the community. It was also very easy to digest, even for people with little or no experience with digital (my partner can vouch for this).
What also impressed me is that I did not only learn about affiliate marketing, but there is also exposure to Google Adsense and so much more. This allows you to monetize your site on only the traffic.
My biggest critique of the training is that it hasn’t been updated in quite some time. This is evident in that there have been some large updates in the platform; these updates have removed some features and added new ones. What is fortunate is most of the primary concepts have not changed, so the training remains relevant. I have, however, been notified that their training material is in the process of being improved and updated within the next few months. I am excited to see the results.
As mentioned above, Wealthy Affiliate does claim to have a platform that is quick and easy to use, and they do not disappoint. As someone who has never designed a website, and who possess limited knowledge about the back end functions I found it extremely easy to build and design my site on the platform.
The platform is continually updated and works well with other tools that are utilized with the program.
Wealthy Affiliate has a massive community and is one of the top affiliate marketing resources. There is a lot of engagement within the community; members’ engagement is strongly encouraged whereby you can receive incentives.
There is a ranking system in WA and this is based on community engagement. Points are awarded for helping other members of the community, commenting on posts and generally being a good community member. As you improve in ranking, you get closer to joining the top 100. Once you break in there you get incentives. I’m not sure what the rewards are, but when I find out I’ll be sure to share it.
Since joining the program I have been pleasantly surprised, not only by the quantity of chatter but also by the quality of feedback provided by members of the community. A lot of the community members have shown great technical ability and a general inquisitiveness that one usually sees with people who are passionate about digital marketing.
My overall experience with the community and community engagement has been positive. So I have no critique to deliver on this point.
Something I really do like about Wealthy Affiliate, and which gave me a really good impression, is that you are able to create a free account and upgrade to premium. They are quite clear on this when you come onto the website, but I do like that you are able to preview most things on the free account.
If you are happy with your experience you can then create a premium account, and this opens up the remainder of the resources, such as next levels of training, tools, etc. The premium membership was cheaper than what I found for similar programs, and I am happy with the quality of resources provided (hence, I stuck around).
I do want to note that when you create a free account, or join as a premium member, you are given the opportunity to purchase a yearly membership. This yearly membership does work out cheaper than paying every month, but I would recommend that you opt into this over Black Friday as there is usually a reduction in price during that time.

Is it worth it?
Whether it is worth using Wealthy Affiliate, or running a business in general, depends entirely on you. WA does provide you with a great platform and training, that provides good depth and a wealth of expertise, yet is easy to understand. They also provide great support, and if you would like me to mentor you on the program feel free to let me know.
I do feel that the program is worth the investment as the resources are pretty great and the community is fantastic.
So to answer the question of whether Wealthy Affiliate is a scam, I would definitely say that it is NOT a scam, but rather a very good way to get started with an online business.
