Whether you want to be working online full time to replace your salary; part-time just to earn a bit of extra cash; or just as a hobby in your spare time, you might not know how to go about it. You might wonder how to work online and earn money at the same time. Where do you start? What do you do? Will whatever you want to do online be successful?
It is important to remember that when working online, you choose your pace and rate of success.
The online world, a vast opportunity pool
Have you ever heard the saying that “the only thing constant in life is change”? Anything you can think of in life is changing, all the time. Can you think of even a single thing that does not experience change? Chances are very unlikely. The Internet and the online world is no exception – it is ever-changing and ever growing…by the second.
This increase in change and growth results in more opportunities, more abundance and more room for you to succeed in your endeavors (whatever they might be). There is countless access to information, resources, training, niche ideas, and financial success. The online world is a vast opportunity pool in which every person can swim and succeed, no matter how young or old, and no matter how tech savvy you are.
It is like an all-you-can-eat buffet, where everyone can get a piece of the online world, and everyone that has ate can be satisfied (i.e. earn some moola). And the greatest thing is, once you have chosen one piece, you can go out and get another, or twelve or a thousand. It’s a never ending cycle of opportunities. The only thing that makes it difficult to succeed is if you don’t take a piece. If you don’t take, you won’t get.
Getting started in the online world
Do you want your piece of the world that is “online”? Then go in and grab it.
Below are some tips and guidelines you can follow in order to start your journey online and make some money.
1. Rock your skills and talents
It is important for you to know and recognize your skills and talents, because this is ultimately what you want to leverage going forward in the online world. It won’t help diving into the online world and burying your talents in the ground. Whatever your skills may be, it is needed to succeed. Develop them constantly and rock them in your online business. Whether it be your skills in art, science, humanities, tech or even simply in communicating. Every person has some kind of skill and or talent, and the online world needs yours.
So, take some time and see exactly where yours lie, don’t take even the smallest talent for granted. You will be surprised at how successful that seemingly small talent can make you.
2. Get clear on what it is you want to do
Now that you know your skills, you need to get a clear picture of what it is you want to do with this skill in the online world. Do you want to sell your art; do you want to demonstrate your wacky experiments; perhaps you want to share love to the world; or maybe you just have a lot to say and you want your voice heard.
Whatever your desire, you need to have a detailed vision of it. Video or voice record your ideas, use a vision board with pictures, write it in your journal, but whatever you do, make sure you know exactly what it is you want out of your online endeavor. What you need to do is define your vision and set your goals.
Also, make sure that you put it somewhere you can see it, so that you can always be motivated to hit your targets.
3. Clarity on who you can help
Now you know your skills, and you know what you want to do with them. The next step is to know who this can help – how and why. Ultimately, if you want to make money, you need to add value. So ask yourself: “what value will this be giving to people” (i.e. your customers – the massive online world of people). Every successful business is successful for one reason: they fulfilled a need. So you need to ask, what need am I fulfilling and why would people want what I am selling? From that perspective you need to act in service of your customers or audience.
It is essential to be really clear on your target audience – know who they are, what they like, what they want and need, where you can find them, why they want/need this specific product/service, and how you will present it to them. Knowing who you can help is where the money lies, provided you solve their problem or meet their needs with an irresistible offer.
A mistake that a lot of people make is that they feel the need to put on a persona for their perceived audience, but at the end of the day your audiences consists of people who are just like you. So, do your best to be yourself, authentic and engaged.
4. Pool your resources
It is also important to know what type of resources you will require. Do you need equipment, money, time, or new software? But an essential resource that is often overlooked is a mentor. When entering a new space or starting a new endeavor, make use of people who have been through it. Surround yourself with positive and experienced people. This will help you to determine what other resources you will need but also avoid mistakes along the way.
Think of creative ways to get your hands on the resources you need. Acquiring resources can often be very tricky, but with the help of a mentor this can be a bit easier. Becoming an entrepreneur means that you need to get used to tricky situations and become creative in finding solutions.
5. Invest in yourself
You are your company’s most valuable asset, therefore, do not be afraid to invest in yourself. Develop your skills in order to bring more value to your business and the customer. If need be, take a few new courses or practical workshops that will really sharpen your skills and bring more to the table.
If you discover that your path requires some additional skills that you might be lacking in, it is important to develop those as well. There is no better investment than investing in yourself.
6. Find a community of support
Being in the online world and trying to do your own business, can sometimes be a lonely place. It is vital to have a community of support to help you along the way. Simple things like giving advice, people who can help you meet your deadlines, or those who guide and mentor you through your journey. All these people lead to your online success.
I also do not want you to make the mistake of assuming that you can only have one mentor. If you think this, then you are robbing yourself of great success. Find a group of people who have expertise in a number of different aspects of the online world and learn as much as you can from them.
This will not only enhance the impact of your business, but it will also enhance your experience of your business. It is vital that you love what you do and love your business. If not, then what would be the point of doing it?
Generate your income online
The internet is a beautiful innovation that opens up the realm of possibilities when trying to generate an income. This doesn’t require you to be a different person, but rather you should be who you are and play to your strengths. That being said, it is also essential that you open yourself up to learn from the online community, and find an online community that can and will support you in your endeavors. A supportive community is a powerful resource as people can give you advice on your journey and also direct you to tools that can assist you in achieving your goals.
